How can I install windows in RAID using a SATA optical drive? ?
Well, I recently acquired a Biostar GF7050V-M7 mainboard, two Maxtor 80GB DiamondMax 21 which I jumpered to work at 3Gb and a SATA LG GH-20NS15 Super Multi - 20x DVD-RW. I installed windows on the 80GB IDE using my old IDE DVD drive but afterwards two or three pins in the middle sank in and the drive stopped being recognized so now I can't use the IDE optical drive anymore. I do have a working floppy drive for the RAID drivers and boot disk if necessary. Is there a way to install windows using the SATA optical drive to the newly created RAID 0 optimal array? Once I set the SATA operation mode to RAID it will no longer boot from the cd rom drive even tho CD ROM is set first ont he boot order.
aargh typo.
I'm very interested to see if there's a solution to this. I was fortunate enough that my Gigabyte motherboard had 2 different chipsets for the sata ports, so enabling the RAID didn't conflict with the DVD drive. I think that's the case for other motherboards as well (forum thread link in Source).
I'm wondering if it's possible to install on a single drive, and somehow get the drivers installed beforehand, so if you were to clone it to a RAID, it wouldn't freak out w/ a BSOD at boot.
Biostar doesn't seem to list the changes in their firmware updates, but I'd see if you have the latest version (wasn't sure if "acquired" meant you bought it new or got it used elsewhere):
